Telecom Inventory Management

Organizations that employ good telecom inventory management practices know what they have, why they have it, and where it is.  In other words, they are in full command of their telecommunications circuits, services, and equipment.

Unfortunately, many enterprises lack this command. And there's good reason telecom inventory management doesn't exist for many. During the 1990's and continuing into the new decade, companies grew at an astonishing pace through mergers and acquisitions.

They not only gobbled up the and assets of their competition, but also inherited their telecom phone service. Upon takeover, there were so many headaches  trying to "merge cultures" etc. etc. that telecom expense management got left behind gathering dust.

That process caused tremendous waste since telecommunications costs were growing rapidly and becoming one of the top five expenses in the P&L.

Also with mergers came downsizing.  This meant that looking forward, companies eventually had fewer resources to manage more and more telecom inventory.  You can see where this is going.

There are two ways to achieve a healthy level of telecom inventory management.  The first is to perform a manual telecom audit of all circuits, services, contracts, and hard assets that relate to telecom phone service. At the end of the project, the organization will have in its control, a full accounting of all its telecom inventory.  From this baseline, the organization can manage all circuits including moves, adds, changes, and deletions.

Telecom inventory management also comes in the form of telecom expense management software.  The same automated platform you would use to audit telecom invoices would be used to get both a bird's eye view and a completely in-depth view of your telecom resources.

This software can be used for both wire line telecom services as well as wireless devices.  The software can be purchased, leased, or the entire service can be a managed service handled soup to nuts off site by a managed telecom service provider.
